Supporting the introduction and penetration of solar-power generation (Jul. – Aug., 2012)

PREX held the Assistance Seminar for Introduction of Solar Power Generation (A) from July 10 to August 10 for 13 participants from 11 countries.

The demand for electrical power is surging in developing countries, which need to make huge investments in the development of electrical-power sources, power transmission facilities and in other areas. Much of the generated volume of power relies on fossil fuels, yet there are also aggressive efforts toward the adaption of renewable energies, namely solar and wind power. Solar-power generation continues to spread to island, mountainous and other regions in developing countries, as it is the easier of the two to deal with. But at the same time, there are problems involving improper equipment and maintenance.

Along with deepening the knowledge of participants from the various countries of solar power generation, the purpose of this seminar is to draw from Japan’s experiences to examine the policies behind the introduction and penetration of solar-power generation, as they apply to participants’ own countries. We conduct programs for companies in Kansai that manufacture solar panels and storage batteries to serve as a bridge to businesses in developing countries.

The Assistance Seminar for Introduction of Solar Power Generation (A) is being implemented under a three-year plan, and it has been held twice a year since fiscal 2010, based on the advice of the Executive Council that comprises experts from JICA, Kankeiren, Osaka City University and the Global Center Environment Foundation. The latest seminar is taking place on the final year, 2012. The second seminar of the current fiscal year, Assistance Seminar for Introduction of Solar Power Generation (B), will take place in November.

Commissioned by JICA Kansai International Center
Participating organizations Kankeiren, Osaka City University, Global Environment Center Foundation
Seminar features
We link up with Kankeiren, as the seminar is conducted mainly in Kansai where many manufacturers of solar panels and storage batteries are concentrated. We conduct programs to serve as a bridge to the businesses of companies and organizations in Kansai in addition to explaining the introduction and penetration of solar-power generation in developing countries.

The participants introduce the situation in their own countries, and the results of the seminar are presented to the companies.
(The country report presentations take place July 17 and 18, and a briefing on the results is held Aug. 9.)

We provide the industry with the latest information on the needs of developing countries during visits to companies, including the major panel manufacturers, power companies and equipment businesses, and to government ministries and agencies. Japanese technology and products are introduced, and human connections are formed through exchange sessions involving Japanese companies.
