PREX Staff Seminar Reports (2) January 2019 —JICA Managerial and Financial Support for Small and Medium Enterprises Development (B)
Japan is a paradise for small and medium enterprises!
In this training course, the participants will see many examples of the support for small and medium enterprises at the national level and local level.
On many occasions, I get to know new support measures. When I was watching the drama “Shitamachi Rocket”, for example, and the main character’s company was in difficulty, I began to think that they should go to a support organization.
A participant said, “Japanese small and medium enterprises are fortunate, as there are so many support organizations and measures. Japan is a paradise for small and medium enterprises.”
On the other hand, how to let small and medium enterprises know and utilize support information is a common task to tackle both in Japan and in the participants’ countries.
I hope that the participants make the most of the training course in Japan and develop support for small and medium enterprises suitable for their own countries.
(Yamauchi, International Division, PREX)
In Japan, 99.7% of the number of enterprises are small and medium enterprises, and the government has been conducting support measures ahead of other countries more than 100 years ago.
It features active promotions of detailed managerial guidance through policies and measures, and guidance to foster human resources.
In developing countries, development of small and medium enterprises is the most important task, and four training courses regarding this field are held every year at PREX.
In the training course, we visit the companies which also utilize support measures, and we directly hear from the owners of those companies saying, “Japanese support system might be well established; however, for example, when you want to apply for subsidies, completing and collecting the documents is very difficult so that you cannot apply. Even if you ask questions to a support organization, it is still difficult to understand. I hope that you deal with the companies nicely, putting yourselves in their shoes, after you go back to your countries.”
