Fiscal Year 2022: JICA Knowledge Co-Creation Program: Small and Medium Enterprise Development Policies (B) (August – September 2022)

Continuation from the JICA Small and Medium Enterprise Development Policies (A) held June – July. This program Small and Medium Enterprise Development Policies (B) was held August – September.

With cooperation from the central government, local authorities, organizations and enterprises, measures being taken to promote small and medium-sized enterprises in Japan were introduced, and with examples from participating countries being shared, the goal of the program was to extract possible solutions to challenges faced in each participant’s country.

Due to the Coronavirus pandemic situation, this program was conducted online.

In this training program, including the content of Small and Medium Enterprise Development Policies (A), in the Organization for Small and Medium Enterprises and Regional Innovation’s live session a question and answer session was added. For this, study of previously prepared on-demand study materials was done, and questions were directly asked on the content. We were impressed at how assertively the participants asked questions.

Including the above, online sessions were held a total of 9 times. A sense of unity seemed to grow among the participants and lively discussions were held in a relaxed atmosphere.

With course leader, Prof. Bunnou’s appropriate guidance, each participant was able to complete an action plan to solve their individual assignment.
Also, to learn from an example of a small and medium enterprise, a live lecture was given by Saito Syoumei (Saito Lighting Co. Ltd.). Prior to the lecture, a video recording was made of the factory shown together with explanations from managers gave the impression that it was a live on site program even though it was actually remote.
There was also appreciation for being able to learn from managers’ talks on public administration support policies for small and medium enterprises.
