The reason why I highly recommend this company can be summed up in one word: passion! I could feel passion not just from President Tashiro but from his employees. They have passion for the company, for coffee, and for people who are involved in the coffee industry around the world.

What is “specialty coffee”? The definition is “coffee that has distinctive flavor and characteristics in a single cup, which consumers are moved by and find delicious.” In other words, consumers are the ones who decide whether or not it is specialty coffee.

It is said about 2% of the world population is engaged in coffee production, which in the past could exist only because of slaves and unpaid indigenous workers. In order to make a system that sustains the lives of the 125 million people involved in coffee production, products of high quality that are sought after in the marketplace (specialty coffee) must be made and people must be paid properly in return. Under this belief, Tashiro Coffee continues to be linked with coffee producing countries.

The following are examples of opinions from two training participants from Nicaragua, a coffee producing country, which shows how impressed they were: “I learnt the importance of continuing to have passion for your company’s efforts”; “The president’s philosophy of having all employees share the same feelings would be innovative in Nicaragua. Here, the president and employees are like two wheels that work together and learn from each other’s failures.”
