Yasuhisa Koki Company Visit

In January 2016, the businessmen and coordinating staff who had taken a business program at the Japan Center in Uzbekistan spent two weeks learning about Japan’s corporate management in “JICA Central Asia Practical Business Training (A).” Here, we go into detail about the visit to Yasuhisa Kouki Bio Mechanics Co., Ltd. and an episode that followed the visit.

Yasuhisa Kouki Bio Mechanics Co., Ltd. is a manufacturing company in Ota Ward, Tokyo. It makes societally significant products that other companies cannot make, and are renowned for their technological prowess. They have developed a diverse range of products based on demand, such as artificial heart simulators, collapsible colour pylons, and even products for the visually impaired. The trainees were deeply impressed with the speech on product development provided by President Tanaka.

Mr. Rahimov, a training participant and business owner, became interested in “Lapico”, a paintbrush developed by the company for visually-impaired people, and wondered if it can be used in Uzbekistan. Through PREX, Mr. Rahimov discussed this with President Tanaka. President Tanaka gave him one set of Lapico out of his goodwill, which Mr. Rahimov brought back to Uzbekistan and gave to an acquaintance’s school for the blind. The illustration on the right was drawn by one of the students using Lapico.

When President Tanaka saw the illustration that Mr. Rahimov had sent to him, he sent back the following message: “In Japan, the blind can experience the joys of drawing through this pen kit. I’m glad that, through this training, people in Uzbekistan have been able to experience the same.” Mr. Rahimov has said that he plans to buy 2 more sets to donate to the school for the blind in Uzbekistan.

Mr. Ruslan, a Japan Center staff member who was participating in the same training session, also announced the following on the last day of training: “Currently there is a seminar at the Uzbekistan-Japan Center aimed at the hearing-impaired. In the future, I would like to consider making a new seminar for the visually-impaired and to use Lapico actively in it.”

Our training program enabled us to get across to people overseas about Japanese business owners’ passion for manufacturing and their brilliant technology. PREX would like to continue to support exchange between partner companies and training participants.
