Health impact and impact to our economy caused by COVID-19

I am from Indonesia, and have been working at Investment Coordinating Board. Currently, my work focuses on investment promotion materials related to the agency’s activities and functions, such as current investment regulations, services that the agency provides, and existing investment opportunities in the country.

The COVID-19 outbreak has undoubtedly affected Indonesia.
The number of confirmed cases has surpassed 800,000 and it still shows no sign of stopping. Along with the health impact, the pandemic has also disrupted the economy, as the GDP growth shrank consecutively in the second and third quarter of 2020. The government has taken measures to respond to the pandemic, including the implementation of large-scale social restrictions and the COVID-19 vaccination program.
Hopefully, this program could help end the global pandemic.

Measures to remain Indonesia as attractive destination for investment

To help the economy bounce back, the government has launched economic recovery program, as well as enacted new law that aims to improve the investment climate. In addition to its abundant natural resources and young workforce, these improvements in business climate and supporting infrastructures are expected to make Indonesia remain as an attractive destination for investors.

Lets keep connected!

As the COVID-19 pandemic has caused a disruption in global value chains, an important concept I learned during the JICA Knowledge Co-Creation Program, it has also shown me how interconnected the world has been. I believe that cooperation between countries, especially in social and economic issues, is needed now more than ever. Therefore, I appreciate PREX’s efforts to keep all the participants connected and posted. I wish everyone good health and hope that this difficult period would end very soon.
