Agriculture is very important when considering the growth of the country

I am Awa, an officer of the Investment Promotion Agency in the government of Gambia, a small country in West Africa.

I participated in JICA Capacity Development for Investment Promotion (A).
Gambia’s Investment Promotion Agency was established in 2011. I have been working in this department since 2012 and was promoted to an officer in 2017.
When I was offered the chance to participate in this training course, I was very happy and came to Japan, having expectations to learn about various examples and knowledge of how Japan and ASEAN countries achieved their national growth with other participants.
Lectures and visits to the companies through the program enable me to learn a lot of new things.
At the same time, it was a great benefit that I could see the professionalism of the instructors, and the diligence and the spirit to value the discipline of Japanese people.

I was impressed by the fact that Kubota, which I visited this time, the founder of which was the first person to produce water pipes and mechanized agriculture for the first time in Japan in 1890, and the company has been contributing to agriculture and the environment for more than 100 years.
I thought Kubota was a company that makes everyone smile.

As two main industries for Gambia’s economy are agriculture and tourism, when considering the growth of the country, agriculture is important for every country.
Kubota serves to improve the agriculture of countries and the quality of food which people eat by creating agricultural equipment which helps improve productivity.
I was also moved by Kubota’s approach which not only includes selling equipment but also providing their various know-how and training people.
Climate change is a global issue that affects our lives.
Every company is required to consider the environment, and Kubota is working to improve its technology for this, too.

I would like to share what I learned with my fellows in Gambia rather than making it just for my knowledge in order to contribute to the development of our country.
