Attended the FY 2009 JICA Improving Productivity of Small Manufacturing Businesses in Africa
After returning home, Mr. FOSU, who works for a business center for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises in western Ghana, launched a project that conducts training for SMEs in the region of his jurisdiction. The project’s topics include management strategies for businesses, acquiring the latest technologies and improvements in business management skills, in addition to productivity improvements, etc. Two years have passed since he attended the seminar in Japan, and his efforts seem to be steadily taking root in the region. The project has also had success in acquiring funds from banks and other supporters.
Among SMEs under his control, it has managed to raise the quality of the services offered by 27 companies. In addition, 60 companies have now access to financial support, 22 of which have used their capital to carry out the purchasing of equipment effective for their businesses. Eight companies have improved their package designs and methods for their final products. Also, 25 companies have seen fruitful efforts in completing their new corporate registrations. Mr. FOSU often has to struggle with such problems as insufficient capital or time. However, he aims to develop regional businesses and his efforts are continuing.
