Support for developing overseas markets for local SMEs

From fiscal 2008 to 2011, the Center for Export and Investment Nicaragua dispatched five of its staff members to the JICA Capacity Development for the Trade Promotion Between Central America and Japan Seminar to enhance their capabilities.

After returning home, the staff members provided companies in Nicaragua interested in the Japanese market with information on its special characteristics and support for exporting to Japan. The results bore fruit, with the Nicaraguan company participating in JETRO’s booth at FOODEX JAPAN, Asia’s largest food trade fair, held in March 2012. This marked a huge step forward for the company to enter the Japanese market. In order to expand the initiatives to date, the Center for Export and Investment Nicaragua applied for the JICA Follow-up Cooperation Program for fiscal 2012 and was accepted. The program includes providing further information for local companies, compilation of a manual on entering the Japanese market, individualized guidance for companies, and other activities. PREX also plans to cooperate with implementing the TV conferences, through offering information related to the Japanese market.
