Mr. RAHMAN, who took part in the Assistance Seminar for Introduction of Solar Power Generation in Japan in 2010.

Mr. RAHMAN is involved in renewable energy policies and planning at the ministry on a daily basis, and we asked him about the situation in his country. A draft bill concerning the establishment of the Sustainable Renewable Energy Development Authority (SREDA), which would promote and manage renewable energy in the country, passed the national legislature, and its regulatory details are now being compiled. Solar power generation is moving ahead, mainly in the form of the SHSs, although the construction of mega solar power generation plants is apparently being studied for the future. In addition, rooftop installation via grid connections has also started as a way of reducing power demand (by covering one’s own demand), if even by small amounts. Mr. RAHMAN has reportedly drafted government regulations that state a requirement for newly constructed buildings to have solar-power generation equipment with capacity accounting for 3 percent of the contracted power volume, in cases where the contracted power exceeds 5kW.
