Otabe is one of the makers of “Yatsuhashi,” a type of traditional sweet of Kyoto made from bean paste. Though it got a comparatively late start in the business, the company has risen to an exemplary position in the industry by developing products incorporating new and innovative ideas, such as Matcha Otabe, Choco Yatsuhashi, Kyo-baum, etc., and by expanding its market and customers.

PREX has enjoyed a long relationship with the company, mainly in its role as a trip destination for seminars done in conjunction with the Central Asia-Japan Center. The activities have been from the perspective of production and quality control of food products and safety and hygiene management, in addition to business strategies. As it states in its quality policy, “Always safe, always delicious,” the company maintains a high level of food safety by having all its employees strictly uphold the 5S rules at the workplace, which are aligned with a quality control system based on international inspection standards.

The seminar participants have told us, “By having extremely high standards with 5S, we have gotten a sense of the full degree of independence from the management ranks, to the employees, and all the way to the part-timers, and of their policy of tackling business.” The locations for the trips have taught us how these efforts deliver deliciousness and happiness to customers.
