What are they doing now? – Gustavo Castaneda
Hola, my name is Gustavo from Quito, Ecuador. I work at the Investment Promotion Agency – Pro Ecuador. During my time throughout the Kansai Region, I truly felt that the People of Japan are making the right difference in the world by sharing their rich culture and heritage not only with the present and future generations but with the citizens from all over the world. As we celebrate 100 years of diplomatic relationship, the Japanese Government has consistently empowered young professionals from all walks of life in Ecuador. This has motivated me and other JICA fellows to rethink the design of public policy that can effectively attract new foreign direct investment or FDI, especially from Japan.
After returning from my unique experience at JICA Kansai, I have worked with related institutions in my country such as the Ministry of Foreign Trade, the Ministry of Transportation and Public Works, and the Ministry of Tourism. Our goal to promote those key projects that can attract new FDI into Ecuador. For instance, new Public-Private Partnerships projects in strategic sectors and logistics represent an opportunity for multi-nationals searching for business opportunities.
In the future, I want to spread the word and share with local companies the opportunities that lie ahead of us to work with Japanese Small and Medium Enterprises. The idea is to link Ecuadorian SMEs with innovative products, solutions and transfer new technologies that are already part of everyday life for millions of Japanese households and bring them into Ecuador.
See you next time. Sayonara
