Attended the FY 2009 Asia-Oceania Region Small and Medium Enterprise Management
The Department of Small Industry and Handicrafts was established within the Ministry of Industry, Mines and Energy in 2000 as an organization in charge of promoting the private sector. It is an important organization that draws up various policies to develop SMEs and is also tasked with implementation. Since 2006, it has dispatched eight people to our seminars to learn about SME promotion efforts. The participants learned about the topic of SME promotion for the first time during their seminars in Japan, and they told us about how they had realized the social importance of SMEs. Participants who have since returned home from the seminar, mainly Mr. REAM, are involved in a proposal for an SME law aimed for enactment in 2012, the drafting of guidelines for starting up businesses, enhancing the functions of productivity centers and industrial testing centers, marketing, quality control, training for productivity improvements and other fields, activities that match SMEs with banks and enhancing the provision of information pertaining to SMEs (use of webpages and bulletins).
