Watching ASEAN’s Growth

PREX has carried out various seminars for 20 years. One of them, the Kankeiren ASEAN Management Seminar, has a history spanning 30 years. Kankeiren ran the seminar independently for its first 10 years. Then PREX was set up and commissioned to run it for the next 20 years. As its name states, the seminar is aimed at the member countries of the ASEAN. Yet despite its name, it covered one country at a time in the very beginning, and then later it handled together as a group the ASEAN’s first member countries: Singapore, the Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia and Brunei. ASEAN was then joined by Vietnam, Myanmar and Laos, in that order. Later to join was the remaining country in the region, Cambodia. This year it seems that all the countries have finally come together. The way the number of countries covered by the seminar grew in tandem with the growth of ASEAN itself has given us a sense of those 20 years of history.
As we examine the ongoing changes and developments affecting ASEAN, I hope that PREX will constantly be able to continue to change.
