Vietnamese company employees: A session for experiencing manager training seminars (Mar., 2014)

A session to experience the Overseas Human Resources Manager Training Seminar, which started March 1, 2014, took place at PREX’s conference room. The session was for four Vietnamese company employees working at SMEs in the Kansai region. The Overseas Human Resources Manager Training Seminar is held for 10 days, comprising five-day first and second halves, for Vietnamese company employees who are managers or manager candidates working locally at manufacturing companies in the Kansai region. With the aim of deepening appreciation for the ways of thinking behind Japanese corporate management, lectures and company inspections are held during the seminar on the themes of corporate philosophy, KAIZEN, organizational management and human-resource development.

Since fiscal 2012, PREX has been helping support globalization for SMEs in Kansai.

Exchange sessions between companies and participants who utilize their opportunities from the seminars in Japan

Presentations of content learned and points to watch out for were held and information on SME assistance projects through ODA has been sent out, while interviews and other activities are taking place with companies. In the meantime, I believe that the seminar curriculum, which utilizes experiences and human networks of the seminar projects for developing countries where PREX has been active to date, is useful in the nurturing of those foreign employees of companies who are capable of operating locally when companies establish production bases overseas.

In this seminar, during the KAIZEN guidance that takes place on-site at manufacturing factories and at JICA seminar lectures, the instructors, who possess a great deal of experience, carefully provide explanations on the reasons for focusing on KAIZEN activities and the way of thinking behind Japanese corporate management, said to be based on teamwork. Company inspections at various locations are incorporated into the program. The lectures are interpreted into Vietnamese one by one, so that the event progresses with interaction and at a speed that the Vietnamese company employees can understand.

At the experience session on March 1, the instructor (Representative Utsumi of Creation Co.) gave a lecture in which case studies on the topic of “the features and strengths of Japan’s SMEs with competitive power” were included. A seminar participant commented: “We were able to understand the part of our spirit that is active at our worksites every day.” A participating company president expressed his view: “We’re teaching each and every common issue, since we would like to appoint Vietnamese employees at our local hubs in the future. Even so, there are some aspects not being taught fully and some things can’t be explained. In today’s lecture, I think the items that have become issues were connected along a thread, and the participants were able to appreciate that.”
