Assistance with air environment improvement in Xian City, China, together with Kyoto City (Feb. 21 to March 6)

For a two-week period from Feb. 21 to March 6, PREX together with Kyoto City held the first seminar in Japan of “reducing suspended particle matter in the air” (which was commissioned by JICA Kansai) for five officials of Xian City, China.

The seminar attracted a high level of interest from the media. It was taken up by Mainichi Broadcasting System, NHK, Kyoto Broadcasting System, the Mainichi Shimbun, Nikkan Kogyo Shimbun and other organizations, as it was an air-improvement seminar that included reducing the amount of PM2.5 particles in the air.

PREX implemented Improving Air Environment in Xian City, China, a regional grass-roots themed project by JICA that spanned three years from fiscal 2008, and carried out assistance for human-resource development, etc. for air-environment improvement. For this fiscal year, the program is being conducted under a new three-year plan. In the seminars, participants visited the Kyoto City Institute of Health and Environmental Sciences, measurement stations, clean centers, companies that manufacture instruments that make environmental measurements, the National Institute of Environmental Studies and other destinations.
