Attended the FY 1997 JICA Marketing Seminar for Understanding the Market Economy

Mr. KELIMBETOV took part in the FY 1997 JICA Marketing Seminar for Understanding the Market Economy, which had been commissioned to PREX by JICA, in January 1998 as a person responsible for deciding on Kazakhstan’s economic strategies. He was appointed Minister of Economic Development and Trade for the Republic of Kazakhstan in April this year. Mr. Kelimbetov says he was deeply struck by “the high level of Japan’s infrastructure and technologies, Japanese people’s hospitality and respect for the aged, and the co-existence of contemporary lifestyles with historical heritage.” At the same time, he says: “I took part in the seminar from the position of an economist, and I learned a lot of things from Japan’s economic development. I was able to come face to face with the intelligence and abilities of Japanese people and their powers in technological development.” Japan today is confronting various dangers, however, he wrote us a message stating, “I strongly believe in Japan’s future.” He was born in 1969 and is 42, and we believe he will become “the face of Kazakhstan,” as he is currently leading his country along the road of development with his youthful energy.
