Moving forward with rural electrification using solar power generation

Mr. Sissoko, who has been utilizing the things he learned in Japan and has been actively engaged since returning home, reports information related to his activities and energy every few months in emails to former seminar participants in other countries, instructors and others involved in the seminars. The most recent time, we received a report on a project that installed a hybrid power station combining solar-power and diesel power generation. This power station consists of a solar-power generation system with maximum output of 150 kW, two diesel generators of 220 kW and 82 kW, and 576 batteries. Its purpose is to electrify rural areas. Throughout Mali, power is supplied mainly by EDM, a state-run corporation, and the Malian Development Agency for Household Energy and Rural Electrification (AMADER), where Mr. Sissoko works. AMADER finances up to 80 percent of the total cost for private projects that promote electrification in regions without electricity. One of his colleagues from Ministry of Energy and Water Resources attended the same seminar that he attended, held in February this year. I look forward to the positive results stemming from the pair’s cooperation and also to the content of their reports.

Mr. Sissoko, center, organizes some of the materials he learned at his seminar, along with other participants.
